Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis)

Onoclea sensibilis also known as the Sensitive Fern is a vibrant shade to full sun loving fern species that grows to 3 feet tall and can be grown in zones 3-9. A beautiful perrineal that will grow larger yearly and have tall spore prongs in the fall that can look great in floral pieces. Little to no maintenance, enjoy these ferns as a backslash around your home, as a mass planting focal point, or in your flower bed to compliment bright blooms. 
Sensitive ferns can spread by creeping rhizomes,  spores, and by division. Their roots run horizontal with the ground and will branch under with these long roots to create more plants overtime. They enjoy well draining soil and can be planted in clay soil to wet marshy areas. They are versatile but may burn if in direct sun without wet soil. If planting in regular ground shade is best unless you are planning to water then by all means plant away anywhere! One plant can be purchased or bulk with discounts for larger quantities. Ferns come with foliage intact in spring through fall, they are dug and boxed for shipping same day. In late fall and winter only the rhizomes will be shipped as the foliage is only active in spring through first frost. Plants are over 3 years old, no babies will be sent. These are beautiful adults. If fern foliage is damaged simply cut back and new will regrow. If desired you can prune entire fern back to promote new healthy growth that suits your location. Place roots horizoltal eith ground and not too deep, about 2 imches under the soil. New ferns wioo establish even with fall to spring rhizomes they will emerge vibrantlt in late spring through fall.
